In last night’s 2016 Euros qualifier, Wayne Rooney scored a late goal to clinch victory for England over Slovenia. Earlier in the game, defensive errors gifted Novakovic a strike on target, but Wilshere went on to score two sensational goals – his first in an England shirt, and England equalised, before taking the lead.
Another mistake was exploited by Pecnik putting the score at 2-2 despite England’s dominance in play. England had squandered many chances during the match but in the 86th minute the Captain sealed England’s win preserving their unblemished record, having won all six of their qualifiers thus far.
Rooney’s performance in the match was a mixed affair as he missed a number of chances before eventually finding the net However, he showed great restraint after being elbowed in the face, and soldiered on looking for the win.
His goal puts him level with Gary Lineker, and one short of Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 49 goals for England.
