What a Humm-dinger!

Fabienne Humm fastest world cup hat-trick

In a match that Ecuador will want to put behind them as soon as possible, Switzerland annihilated their opponents 10-1. Switzerland can’t take all the credit, as Ecuador’s Angie Ponce kicked off the scoring with an own goal after 24 minutes. It wasn’t her last. Having gone some way to redeeming herself by taking and scoring a penalty in the second half – Ecuador’s only goal of the game – she then scored another own goal just five minutes later.

If Ponce’s own goal / penalty sandwich gave the team indigestion, the damage didn’t stop there. Both Ramona Bachmann and Fabienne Humm scored hat-tricks, with Humm breaking Mio Otani of Japan’s record for a hat-trick. Clocking in at five minutes, three minutes faster than Otani’s against Argentina in 2003. Goals were also scored by Aigbogun and Moser.
