Chelsea win title. Everybody yawns.

chelsea win premier league title

It comes as no surprise that after a sterling season, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea have clinched the points needed to be hailed as Champions of the Premier League. They defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday, winning the title with three games to spare.

Despite missing Diego Costa due to injury, the blues went ahead after Hazard managed to head the ball in on the rebound the net after his penalty was saved. Due to his managerial successes, Mourinho is being heralded as one of the greats, especially for his shrewdness in adding to the team last summer. Much of Chelsea’s dominance over the entire season can be attributed to the pairing between Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, which has seemed telepathic at times. Costa’s injuries have kept him sidelined for periods, but it’s a demonstration of Chelsea’s depth and quality of squad that his absence has not greatly impacted their success.

However, Chelsea’s style of play has in recent times been described as boring. Palace fans were heard chanting ‘Boring, boring, Chelsea’ at Stamford Bridge yesterday, and they’ve been described as lacking the flare of supersides like Barcelona or Real Madrid. While the rest of the world might be feeling underwhelmed by the news, Chelsea fans, players, the manager and owner won’t give a damn how they got there as they celebrate Chelsea’s victory.

I think that Chelsea get a bad press, they have achieved something impressive with the gap they have opened up but for the players they have in their squad, some sexier football wouldn’t go amiss. Having said that both Manchester teams have been stale for various reasons and the rest have been beating each other, I look forward to a closer title next year.

Me too! At least the scrap at the bottom of the table will be exciting right until the last day of the season, and West Ham aren’t down there for once which makes a nice change!

What’s happened to them in recent months, they’ve dropped a lot of places. every league has been great this season and I’m already excited for next season!

West Ham were on fire for the first half of the season, even without Andy Carroll back from injury, but I think getting knocked out of the FA Cup ended their season. Only the week before they had survived that spectacular penalty shoot-out against Everton and looked like they were in with a chance of winning the Cup, then boom – out. By that point in the season they were safely mid table but with nothing left to really aim for. It’s been a dull second half of the season, but at least we’re safe.
