Yesterday’s Manchester derby saw a turn of fortunes for the Red Devils with their first win in five against their rivals Manchester City. Sergio Aguero kicked off the scoring putting the Blues ahead, but goals from Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini turned the tide of the game, and City capitulated in the face of United’s relentless attack. Mata scored halfway through the second half, followed shortly by another by Chris Smalling, taking the score to a humiliating 4-1. Aguero’s second goal in the 89th minute may have been his 100th goal in the Premier League, but it provided small consolation to a side who have lost six of their last eight games. The match ended at 4-2.
City’s title hopes have surely now been extinguished, but their troubles aren’t over yet. If Liverpool win against Newcastle tonight it’ll put them only four points below City, and fighting for the fourth place and qualification for the Champions League.
