Last night, Manchester United suffered the humiliation of being knocked out of the FA Cup at home. Arsenal, who have not had much success at Old Trafford of late, were first on the score sheet with a shot from Nacho Monreal, but United’s Wayne Rooney equalised soon after with a decisive counter attack. Danny Welbeck then bagged a second putting the visitors in front.
In the second half, referee Michael Oliver had to make a number of tough calls over rough challenges and diving incidents. Adnan Januzaj, who has now picked up more more cards for diving than he’s scored goals since he’s been at United, was booked after waiting until he’d entered the box before choosing to crumble gracefully to the floor. However, it’s Angel Di Maria that will be grabbing all the post-match headlines. After being shown a yellow card for going down too easily, he earned another only moments later, for grabbing at the referee’s shirt. Di Maria was sent off leaving Man United down to ten men for the remainder of the match.
The score at the final whistle was 1-2. Arsenal will play either Bradford City or Reading in the semi-final.
