Pressure is mounting on Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert, after his team were defeated by 5 goals to nil by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday. Villa are now without a win in eight league games in a row, and it has been 612 minutes since they last scored a goal.
With a goal drought like that, there is heightened pressure on Villa’s defence, but with Giroud scoring after only 8 minutes, and a first half of relentless Arsenal attack, it looked unlikely that the visitors would come back. Villa did have 2 shots on target either side of half-time, but after Ozil’s second goal at 56 minutes, Villa capitulated, allowing the Gunners to run riot.
Theo Walcott took the score tally to 3, then Arsenal were awarded a penalty after Villa goalkeeper, Brad Guzan fouled Chuba Akpom. He then bungled the save, letting Carzorla’s shot through his fingers. Villa’s dismal day was not over yet though, and 19 year old Bellerin scored in the 90th minute ending the game 5-0.
Villa are now precariously placed two places and 3 points above the relegation zone, although Lambert insists his squad have enough quality to stay up.
