The day after Manchester United were forced to a reply by Cambridge United, Chelsea hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in their match against Bradford City at Stamford Bridge. It looked like the game was over at half-time after Cahill and Ramires put Chelsea 2 goals ahead, but League One Bradford fought back and the six thousand away supporters erupted after Jon Stead pulled one back for them. They didn’t stop there as Filipe Morais scored the equaliser, and then Halliday took the Bantams into the lead in front of a stunned Stamford Bridge. It seemed too good to be true, when the 90 minutes drew to a close, and then Bradford had to dig deep to hold off the relentless assault of the current leaders of the Premier league through the endless 7 minutes of added time. Then it was over. Miraculously, they scored a fourth. A rocket of a shot from Mark Yeates sealed their defeat of the giants.
Jose Mourinho praised Bradford for their win, but said that he and his team should feel ashamed. “It’s a disgrace for a big team to lose to a small team from a lower league.” At least he can console himself that Chelsea were not the only Goliath to get slayed. Manchester City were also beaten at home 2-0 by Championship side Middlesborough.
