Chelsea’s hopes of matching the unbeaten run of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’, were brought to an abrupt halt at St James’ Park yesterday. Chelsea had hoped to set a club record by remaining unbeaten in 24 consecutive matches across all competitions, but Alan Pardew’s side had other ideas. Papa Cisse’s brace put Newcastle comfortably ahead, but Drogba pulled one back for the visitors in the 83rd minute. As the clock ticked slowly towards the final whistle, the Magpies defended for their lives, and managed to hold off the Blues’ onslaught, even with 6 minutes added time. With 2:1, the final score, a frustrated Jose Mourinho was left complaining about time-wasting. This loss not only ended an unbeaten run for Chelsea, but has reduced the gap at the top of the table to only 3 points. Game on!
