Roy Hodgson’s England squad notched up another win last night in the Euro 2016 qualifiers. However, their 100% record in the competition thus far looked under threat against underdogs Slovenia, when their first shot on target was Jordan Henderson’s own goal in the 57th minute.
Luckily, this seems to have woken up the England team, and an immediate counterattack won a penalty for captain Wayne Rooney which he netted with ease. This took his England goal tally to 44, making him the joint third highest goalscorer along with Jimmy Greaves, on a night in which he also earned his 100th cap playing for his country.
England’s success was then sealed by a brace of goals from Danny Welbeck, who has now scored five goals in the last four games.
