Don’t kick a man when he’s Downing

Manchester United Captain Wayne Rooney got shown the red card after he lashed out at Stewart Downing in the clash between Manchester United and West Ham yesterday. This is the sixth sending off of his career – the third at United, and pundits are speculating whether it is the pressure of Captaincy which caused Rooney to make such a seemingly unprovoked foul on the West Ham midfielder.

Despite, playing with only ten men against a relentlessly attacking West Ham side , the Red Devils won the match 2-1, Rooney having opened the scoring, with a follow up from van Persie. Sakho scored for West Ham, but a late equalizer scored by Kevin Nolan was controversially deemed off-side, leaving West Ham to return home without a deserved point.
