England won. No-one saw.

Last night, England beat Norway 1-0 at Wembley. The match was the first one played by England since they were knocked out of the World Cup in the group stages. It was a friendly, but the last international before the start of the Euro 2016 qualifiers. It was notable for attracting the poorest crowd turnout since the new Wembley stadium was re-opened in 2007.

England Manager Roy Hodgson said “We’ll find it hard to bring attendances back because the opponents we’re playing won’t excite the public.” Is it not more a sign that confidence in the national team is at an all time low? Well, that remains to be seen. England will play San Marino, Estonia, Switzerland, Slovenia and Lithuania in the qualifiers, and face Switzerland on Monday 8th September.
